What Are All-on-4 Implants?

The main question you are probably asking is, “What are all-on-4 implants?”

All-on-4 implants are a teeth replacement option that is intended to replace an entire row of teeth. Unlike other teeth row replacement options, all-on-4 implants are secured in place. This provides many advantages that patients love.

Why All-on-4 Implants?

There are a lot of advantages to all-on-4 implants. Some of the top advantages include:

  • Strength. All-on-4 implants offer a level of strength that is unrivaled by other teeth row replacement options. Even snap-in dentures, which are a form of dental implants, aren’t able to provide the same level of security as all-on-4 implants. As all-on-4 implants are permanent and the prosthetics are not intended to be removed without the help of a dentist, they are built to stay put.
  • Longevity. All-on-4 implants are built to last. The prosthetics are strong and the dental implants themselves are permanently installed into the jawbone. A patient may eventually need the prosthetic replaced (often they can last 20 years), but the implants can last a lifetime.
  • Appearance. All-on-4 implants are designed to look very similar to natural teeth. If you still have a natural row (top or bottom), the all-on-4 implant row will match the remaining teeth seamlessly. Most people won’t even notice they are there!
  • Ability to bite and chew. If you are currently wearing traditional dentures, you know how frustrating it can be to bite and chew. With all-on-4 implants, you can eat many of your favorite foods without worry.
  •  No need to remove. With traditional dentures and even snap-in dentures, you’ll need to remove them from time to time. All-on-4 implants are fixed in place by your dentist and aren’t intended to be removed. This means you don’t have to worry about taking them out at night or removing them to clean.

Why All-on-4 Implants?

Are All-on-4 Implants Right for Me?

Whether all-on-4 implants are right for you will depend on a few factors. One major consideration is whether or not your jawbone is able to handle the implant procedure. With missing teeth, your jawbone will deteriorate over time. If you are able to get all-on-4 implants placed quickly enough, this may not be an issue. If your jawbone has deteriorated, you may need a sinus lift or bone graft procedure before the implants can be placed. While these procedures are generally successful, they do take time to perform. They are also an additional cost that needs to be considered.

In order to see if all-on-4 implants are right for you, set an appointment with our office to see Dr. Baroudi. She will perform an examination to determine if all-on-4 implants are an option. This will include both a visual exam and x-rays. If she decides you are a candidate for all-on-4 implants, she will schedule an appointment for the initial phase of the procedure. If she finds that your jawbone does not have the integrity to support the implants, she may recommend a bone graft or sinus lift. She also may simply decide that all-on-4 implants aren’t the right option for your needs. If this is the case, Dr. Baroudi will discuss what other options are available for your teeth replacement needs.

The Implant Process

Once Dr. Rana Baroudi has performed an evaluation, she will schedule you for your initial procedure. Dr. Baroudi will first sedate you to ensure you don’t experience pain during the procedure. She will then remove any teeth that need to be extracted. An incision is made, and the implants are placed. Often the prosthetics can be placed on the same day as the implant procedure. Once they are placed, you are good to go.

Other Options

If you aren’t a candidate for all-on-4, there are other replacement options that are still available to you. Two common replacement options are snap-in dentures and traditional dentures.

Traditional dentures are what most people think of when they hear the term “dentures.” They rest on the gums and are not secured in place. This offers the appearance of natural teeth and bite support. With that said, it doesn’t offer the same support as all-on-4.

Snap-in dentures are another option for patients that are able to receive dental implants but for whatever reason all-on-4 implants aren’t the right option. Snap-in dentures involve the placement of implants to provide additional support, but they are also designed so the patient can remove them with ease.
